I am still on a convention high from Connecticon two weekends ago. I still am going through all of the photos that people are posting on the facebook page re-living the awesome moments that we had.

Here are some highlights from the last two days.

1. Death Match!

My sister and I look forward to this every year! It takes cosplayers and put them together in a match of death. The victory is determined by the audiences applause for their favorite character. What I love most about this main event is the randomness that happens in between  the matches. A couple of years ago one of the characters had a toy bear that the host Moogli commandeered. The audience as a whole named him Odin. Well Odin made a surprise appearance this year and it was great.

Another one of my favorite moments was the winner of last years match Bill Nye the Science Guy. He basically stole the show this year as he acted as the death wrangler for those who lost. Every time he came onstage, the audience started to chant "BILL, BILL, BILL".

Photo from last year with Bill Nye and Miss Frizzle
And this terrific 10 year old kid won Death Match this year. He was wearing stilts and walking up and down stairs. This kid had some serious talent and I am glad that he won.

A picture with Jack and Oogie Boogie before they won Death Match.

2. My first Cosplay Contest

This year I took the plunge and entered myself into a costume contest with Jane Porter. I knew I wasn't going to win, but I did want to push myself into doing something that I would not normally do during a convention. I am glad that I did this and it has taught me new things that I will take with me when I enter into my next one.

3. Riverfest!

As I mentioned before, this years convention happened the same time as Hartford's Riverfest. Lots and lots of food trucks and an amazing firework display. This year we had a prime spot from our hotel to see the fireworks. So my sister and I ordered room service ( the first time ever for me) and we enjoyed the view with air conditioning.

4. Sword fighting

The last thing that my sister and I did was to visit a German Sword fighting demonstration. Oh my was that fun! Not to mention that we sat next to a guy that owns his own school and was giving us insight on the exercises they were showing us. And then, they gave me a sword. Well, not a real one. But there were giving lessons on the swords and I participated. Oh my was it fun! Makes me want to take up lessons. Too bad there is no where close were they give lessons.

All in all, it was a wonderful weekend. Probably one of the best conventions I've been to in a while. I can't wait to go again. Here are some photos that I took of awesome cosplayers.

Power Rangers Pannel

Only 340 days until Connecticon 2016!

So something happened this past weekend. Nothing to major.....just the best convention EVER!

Yes, that did require caps and I won't apologia.

It was the best experience that I have had in a long time. There was something different in the air this year that just made everyone happier. Maybe it was just me coming out of my shell more. But I like to think that we all sensed something and it just made our awesome culture more fun and inviting.

Day one started off as my sister and I dressed and Phineas and Ferb. You all know I was super happy that she was willing to dress up with me. I think she enjoyed it. We already started to plan what we are going to be next year.

This year we were able to go to the Disney Photoshoot. Most years the time slot lands when there is a panel that we want to see. It was so nice to meet up with all of the other Disney Cosplayers.

This has to be one of my favorite photos from the shoot. All photos taken by the lovely people at Cosplay Crew

After the shoot, my sister wanted out of her wig. I don't blame her at all. I'm surprised mine stayed nice after a day of running around. I went back to the hotel and changed into my Anastasia Costume. We then hit the dealer's room for some swag. Oh the pretty shinny things! I was good and kept my spending to a minimum.....ish.

Then we made our own plushies! It was a ton of fun! Of course my sister's turned out to be the best ever! Mine was just a peg-legged pirate. It was here that we meet this awesome couple who had the same weirdness like us. She made the best back story for her guy name Phil ( a superhero butler looking for his love...which happened to be my sister's demon).

And with that we called it a day and went to sleep. Or attempted some sort of sleep. Apparently there was a party on our floor that we were not invited too. :(

More of my tip to the convention in my next post!

After many many years, I have finally convinced my little sister to dress up with me for Connecticon! I fully belived she agreed to do this only to shut me up about it. But I am so happy that we get to do this together.

And what costume pairing won her over you may ask? Well I am glad that your brought that up. When I first proposed this idea to her I was in my Yzma costume phase. I really wanted to do a Kronk/Yzma combo or a Yzma/Kuzko pair from the Emperor's New Groove. I thought this would be amazing since Allie does an amazing Yzma impression. I mean it is pretty spot on. But she wasn't fully into this idea which is totally fine. Who would want to spend hours putting on purple body paint.

Next idea was Shego and Dr. Drakken from Kim Possible. Again the idea was vetoed and I went back to the drawing board.

By this point I am determined to find something that we could do together. Going though an intensive list, mostly filled with Disney character, I landed on Phineas and Ferb.  Initially I wanted to be Dr. Doofenshmirtz (yes I have a thing for crazy evil doctors) and Allie could be Perry the Platypus. I proposed the idea and it received a lukewarm response. I was ecstatic! This was more interest in an idea than anything I have said before. After talking it over more we thought it would be fun to go as the show's main characters Phineas and Ferb. Please cue the heavenly chorus here.

The duo Phineas and Ferb ( in case you have lived under a rock and don't know who they are)
Of course I would be going as Ferb since I am a good foot taller than my sister and Allie will be going as Phineas. I can't tell you how happy I am to be dressing up with my sister at the next convention. It is going to be a lot of fun. Be sure to look for us on Saturday dressed up at the duo!

In the costuming world, it is never too early to start thinking about the next convention's costume choices. I am one of those people who don't like to leave anything until the last minute. I did that with Rhode Island Comic Con and I forgot a ton of stuff ( like my actual dress). So here I am in November, plotting out my costume choices for the next convention.

My next dream costume ( the first being Anastasia) is from a movie that I loved dearly as a kid. Even though I skipped though all of the scary parts in the beginning of the movie. My main costume is going to be Jane from Disney's Tarzan.  I can't tell you how excited I am to be doing this costume finally. Here are my costume resource pictures.

I think I have a thing for yellow dresses. Hmmm... :)

It is nice to have three costumes on my plate for the cold Connecticut months that I have ahead of me. Keep checking back to see my progress on these costumes!
